Enhanced Weekly SCE

24 km weekly snow extent now available from Sep. 1980 forward. Download the netCDF or see more details at NSIDC. Enhanced maps at 24 km resolution, including daily departures are coming soon.

Snow Extent CDR

Rutgers University Global Snow Lab maps, figures and tabular data are generated from the Northern Hemisphere SCE CDR v01r01. This is the latest version, now available from NCEI.

2022 Annual Report

Annual snow cover extent (SCE) over Northern Hemisphere lands averaged 24.9 million square kilometers in 2022. This is 0.04 million sq. km less than the 1991-2020 mean and ranks as the 24th least extensive cover on record... [download]
